TEAM STUDY VISIT TO THREE COURTS ON THE CONTINENT

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg ,

The European Court of Justice in Luxembourg ,

The German Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe .

Monday 5 to Thursday 8 December 2011

TEAM offers teachers, lecturers and university students a study tour to the above three important European Courts.

The group will travel by rail from London and spend one night in Luxembourg and two nights in Strasbourg . The study visit includes a guided tour with explanations of the work of the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights and attendance at an oral hearing in each Court, subject to timetabling. There will also be a presentation of the work of the Council of Europe.

From Strasbourg , the group will travel by coach to Karlsruhe for a guided tour and explanation of the role of the German Constitutional Court , in particular in relation to those judgments from the two European Courts which have constitutional implications for the Federal Republic .

The study tour will be led by Dr. Martyn Bond, Visiting Professor of European Politics and Policy at Royal Holloway, University of London , and author of The Council of Europe and Human Rights – an Introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights.

The group will leave London before midday on Monday 5 December and return in the evening of Thursday 8 December. The fee is £300 (lodging in single room) or £250 (lodging in shared room). This includes second class return rail travel to Luxembourg and Strasbourg , group coach to Karlsruhe as indicated, and local travel in Strasbourg . It also includes one night hotel lodging with breakfast in Luxembourg and two nights in Strasbourg , as well as dinner on the first evening and lunch in the Council of Europe.
