Has the general election changed the UK’s relationship with the EU? (8 October 2010)

The Federal Trust, in conjunction with the Global Policy Institute and with co-funding from the European Commission Representation in the UK, is launching a new series of conferences:  A new British Government  –  A new British role in Europe?

The objective of these conferences is to examine the ways in which the new British Government can and will contribute to the development of the European Union, both internally and externally. Difficult decisions will need to be taken in the European context, which will play an important part in the European Union’s development over the coming years.  We ask how far the new British Government can play an influential role in shaping the course of wider European developments.

We start the series with an event discussing the impact of the General Election on Britain’s relationship with the EU:

To examine the question, we have assembled a distinguished panel of speakers:

Andrew Duff, MEP, first elected in 1999 is a LibDem member of the European Parliament for the East of England.  He writes extensively on the development of the EU and contributes a monthly column to the Financial Times.
Anthony Teasdale, is the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the European Parliament; he was formerly a special adviser to the FCO, and The Treasury.
Maurice Fraser, is the Senior Fellow in European Politics at the LSE and Programme Director of the LSE’s Sciences Po MSc Double Degree in European Studies, and former special adviser at the FCO.
