Foreign Policy and its Moral Dilemmas: Corruption and Tyranny (23 May 2011)

The first meeting in the series organised by the Wyndham Place Charlemagne Trust focussed on the question of Terrorism and Religious Extremism.  In its second meeting to be held on Monday 23 May, the focus of discussion will be on Corruption and Tyranny: how should democratic governments treat with tyrannical regimes?  Is ‘regime change’ a legitimate aim of foreign policy?  How best to deal with political and commercial corruption?

To introduce our discussion on this very topical issue we are delighted to welcome:

Speaker: Hugh Arbuthnott CMG, former ambassador to Romania

There will be a response from Helen Garlick, international legal expert

The meeting will take place from 12.30 to 2.00 pm in the Churchill Room, Europe House, 32 Smith Square, London SW1P 3EU by kind permission of the European Parliament Information Office in the UK and the European Commission Representation in the UK.  Please note that prior registration is necessary.

Light refreshments will be served from12 pm: contributions to cover costs are welcome.

This series will be of interest to many, particularly to the 20-35 age group among academics, parliamentarians and researchers, diplomats and especially to members of the newly formed EU External Action Service.
